Firefighters Warn on Phone Solicitation

Huntington Beach firefighters are alerting residents, especially the elderly, that telephone solicitations allegedly on behalf of firefighters is not sanctioned by the city Firemen’s Assn.
According to Fire Captain Bruce Spencer, the Huntington Beach Firemen’s Assn. has been warned that telephone solicitors have been using firefighter-organization names to seek donations, even though the HBFA does not solicit funds from the public and does not approve of fund-raising by telephone.
Though the HBFA may be affiliated with the calling organization, any money donated will “serve no useful purpose in Huntington Beach,” Spencer said.
