BANGKOK, Thailand — Burma has opened a reception center in Rangoon to accept students repatriated from Thailand, Rangoon Radio said on Friday.
It said the center was set up “to systematically receive students returning home from Thailand and hand them over to their parents.”
Thousands of young Burmese fled to rebel-held enclaves along the Thai border after a bloody crackdown against pro-democracy demonstrators in September. Thailand began making arrangements for their voluntary return after a visit by its army chief to Rangoon last week.
