A 23-year-old construction worker was crushed to death by a forklift Wednesday at a construction site in the 3600 block of Gird Road in Fallbrook, the San Diego County coroner’s office said.
A Life Flight nurse pronounced Gary Eugene Maldonado of Temecula dead at the scene at 5:43 p.m. Maldonado was an employee of Oxnard Building Materials in Riverside County.
The coroner’s office said the driver of the forklift, Tyrone Morgan, had started to back up when he heard a yell and turned and saw the victim. Workers said Maldonado had jumped on the forklift to ride to another area of the construction site.
