HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL : Girls : Rocha Sets North Hollywood Record in Win

Junior center Claudia Rocha scored a school-record 30 points Wednesday to lead visiting North Hollywood to a 77-34 rout of Poly in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game.
Rocha, who also had 12 rebounds, eclipsed Cheryl Buch’s 14-year record of 29 points early in the fourth quarter. She is averaging 12.5 points a game.
“Two minutes into the fourth quarter, she was on the bench,” North Hollywood Coach Rich Allen said. “We’ve had a lot of mid-20s, but we’ve never had a 30. I had no idea until the scorekeeper told me.”
Michelle Cabaldon added 22 points and 12 rebounds as the Huskies improved to 10-3, 3-0 in league play.
Jackie Ito scored 14 to lead Poly.
In other games:
Reseda 80, Sylmar 29--The Regents jumped to a 24-5 first-quarter lead and were never challenged in the Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Sylmar.
Four Regents scored in double figures, led by Denisha Jordan with a game-high 27 points. Teammates Aggie Garcia (16), Deana Yeatts (16) and Jennifer Marzahl (15) also scored more than 10 points for Reseda, the two-time defending City Section champion.
El Camino Real 91, Taft 48--Lisa Huffaker led El Camino Real (9-4, 4-0) with 27 points in a Northwest Valley Conference rout.
Marie Maxwell scored 12 points to lead Taft (0-8, 0-4).
Grant 45, Monroe 35--Guards Melissa Sullivan (11 points) and Karla Parade (10) led Grant in the Valley Pac-8 Conference game. Monique Young had 9 points and 10 rebounds for Grant (3-5, 1-3).
Village Christian 64, Miraleste 44--Jana Kovar scored 18 points and had 12 rebounds to spark host Village Christian in a nonleague game.
