NAIA Track and Field : Azusa Pacific Wins Title Again

Azusa Pacific, which came into the final day of the three-day National Assn. of Intercollegiate Athletics track and field championships at Azusa with a 45-point lead, maintained that lead Saturday and won, 115-70, over runner-up Adams State of Colorado.
It was Azusa Pacific’s seventh consecutive NAIA track title, and Coach Terry Franson was named NAIA coach of the year for the eighth straight time.
Patrick Nwanko anchored Azusa Pacific’s 400-meter relay victory, teaming with Paul Dennis, Felix Sandy and Eddie Carbin in 40.96.
Nwanko won the 100 meters Friday and was second in the 200 Saturday. His time was 21.11, while Keith Spiva of Malone of Ohio was clocked in 21.10.
Prairie View A&M; of Texas won the women’s competition with 109 points. Arkansas Pine Bluff and Concordia of Nebraska tied for second with 50 points. Azusa Pacific tied for ninth with 28 points.
