The Coast Guard Auxiliary kicks off National Safe Boating Week with a safety awareness celebration today and Sunday at Seaport Village from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
The Coast Guard’s 82-foot cutter will arrive both days with San Diego’s Fairest of the Fair; a Shamu “character”; the Coast Guard’s Safetee Seal, and Mother Goose and her princesses on board. The cutter will then be open for touring by the public.
Daily activities also include a simulated rescue of a boater using the Coast Guard’s Dolphin helicopter and a 41-foot utility boat.
There also will be demonstrations of life vests, safety flares, life rafts and firefighting equipment. The Personal Watercraft Assn. will perform a water show both days.
