Braniff Inc.: The Orlando, Fla., airline posted a first-quarter loss of $21.2 million, compared to an $8.1-million loss a year ago. Revenues were up 49% to $139.9 million. The company attributed the loss to high operating costs of the BAC 1-11 aircraft, normal seasonality, the costs of expanding service to formerly unserved areas and other expenses related to expansion.
