A second violent thunderstorm within 24 hours set back attempts to repair damage from an earlier storm and left more than 100,000 homes in the Washington area without power. The second storm, while not as devastating as a thunderstorm Wednesday, robbed an additional 22,000 homes of electricity in the nation’s capital and suburban Maryland, officials said, with power still not restored to more than 76,000 homes from blackouts the previous day. An additional 12,600 homes in the northern section of the state also were without power at the height of the storm, said Deborah Tompkins, a spokeswoman with the Virginia Electric Power Co.
