Woman Beaten With Bat Dies; 2 Charged

A 20-year-old San Fernando woman who was severely beaten with a baseball bat died of her injuries Friday and two former women friends were charged with her murder.
Elizabeth Valdivia died at Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills three days after she was attacked on a street in Sylmar while walking home from her job at a fast-food restaurant, authorities said.
Witnesses to the attack provided Los Angeles police with the license plate number of a truck in which the alleged assailants fled. Dawn Michelle Rodriguez of San Fernando and Socorro Mauricio of Pacoima, both 20, were arrested.
Rodriguez and Mauricio pleaded not guilty Friday at their arraignment on murder charges in San Fernando Municipal Court. They were being held without bail at the Van Nuys jail.
Investigators said the attack was motivated by the breakup of the three women’s friendship.
