Officials Detain Man Who Swallowed Heroin

HOUSTON — A man who swallowed about $1-million worth of heroin in at least 74 packages was detained at Houston Intercontinental Airport after agreeing to be X-rayed, U.S. Customs Service officials said Saturday.
Enemuo C. Akwali, 41, of Nigeria had ingested more than 1 1/2 pounds of heroin in balloon-like packages, authorities said Friday. Akwali was stopped by customs agents because he appeared nervous and was coming from Nigeria, a country that is an established source of illegal drugs, officials said. He is being charged with possession with intent to distribute more than 100 grams of heroin.
