A 13-year-old Northridge girl died Sunday from head injuries suffered in a plane crash that claimed the lives of three other family members.
Lorraine Rhoden, who had been on life-support systems since Thursday’s crash in Santa Clarita, died about 2:30 a.m. at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Valencia, nursing supervisor Anne Coleman said. The girl’s father, prominent Los Angeles attorney Harold Rhoden, 66; her mother, Sheila, 40; and grandmother, Ceil Rauch, 61, of Lake Worth, Fla., were killed instantly in the crash.
Harold Rhoden, who recently won a jury’s landmark $21-million award for Marc Christian against the estate of actor Rock Hudson that was later reduced by a judge, was piloting the single-engine plane at the time of the crash, authorities said. The plane was en route from Sacramento to Van Nuys Airport when it developed engine trouble and crashed about 2 p.m. in a ravine near Sierra Highway and Placerita Canyon Road.
The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the cause of the accident.
