Ferraro Asks Support for Flag Amendment

Taking up a patriotic cry in response to a recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling, Los Angeles City Councilman John Ferraro on Wednesday called on city residents to support a constitutional amendment that would outlaw desecration of the American flag.
Ferraro introduced his motion after the Supreme Court ruled that flag burning is protected under the First Amendment to the Constitution.
Calling the decision “a disappointment to patriotic Americans,” the motion asks the city to support a resolution authored by State Sen. Cecil Green (D-Santa Fe Springs) asking Congress to adopt a constitutional amendment protecting the flag.
