SDSU Picked Seventh in Football

The San Diego State football team has been picked by to finish seventh in the nine-team Western Athletic Conference next season.
Meeting in Sun Valley, Ida., on Sunday, reporters covering the conference picked Brigham Young to win the WAC title.
The Cougars, who have won 12 conference titles, including 10 in a row from 1976-85, received 25 first-place votes of the 32 cast by reporters at the annual football preview.
Coaches were not polled.
BASKETBALL
The San Diego girls’ 13-year-old Police Athletic League team earned a berth in the third round of the Junior National Basketball Championships in Coral Springs, Fla., with a 60-51 victory over Oregon. De Angela Minter led San Diego with 14 points, and Jeanie Shadian added 10. San Diego will play North Carolina Tuesday in the 40-team national tournament.
