ON THE SIDELINES : S.D. State’s No. 2 QB Might Quit

SAN DIEGO — San Diego State quarterback Brad Platt did not report for the start of practice Thursday and is considering quitting the team, Aztecs coach Al Luginbill said.
Platt would have entered the fall as the team’s No. 2 quarterback behind Dan McGwire, a 6-foot-8 transfer from Iowa who won the starting job last spring.
“I met with Brad for about an hour last night. That is the first indication I had that he was thinking about quitting,” Luginbill said. “I didn’t accept his decision last night, and he agreed to get back to me today.
“At this time I haven’t heard from him, so his status with the squad is uncertain. He’s a fifth-year senior, and it is certainly not in his best interests to quit football now.”
