Blue Cross of California: The Woodland Hills-based health insurer reported a $7.8-million profit for the second quarter, contrasted with a $20.5-million loss a year earlier. It was Blue Cross’ fourth straight quarterly profit following years of heavy losses. In the latest quarter, Blue Cross continued losing money on its basic underwriting business, but the loss narrowed to $800,000 from $37.8 million a year ago.
