SAN BERNARDINO — The Eastview Little League All Stars of San Pedro beat the Oregon All-Stars 1-0 and reached the semifinals of the Western Regional Championships. Eastview, 14-1, faces the Montana All-Stars today at 5:30.
An overflow crowd of 9,000 at Al Houghton Stadium watched Eastview score its only run in the bottom half of the first inning. Leadoff hitter Angel Quintero walked and advanced all the way around the diamond on three passed balls by Oregon catcher Tom Potanm.
Oregon pitcher Tony Combs struck out 11 batters and allowed only four hits. Eastview’s Tim Harper, 5-0, struck out nine and allowed four hits. Harper did not allow an Oregon player to reach third base.
“We won’t reach Williamsport (World Series site in Pennsylvania) scoring runs on passed balls, but I was pleased with our defense tonight,” Eastview Coach Joe DiLeva said.
Eastview must win its next two games to reach the World Series.
