‘A New Age’ of Energy Saving

May I present the following with reference to the article “Energy Conservation Back on Front Burner” of your Aug. 9 issue:

Whereas the energy-saving possibilities published in that report are, indeed, dramatic, startling and challenging, it remains questionable whether those $11.50 bulbs and those fancy windows will find a friendly market.

What may be equally, if not more, dramatic, is the horrendous waste caused by hundreds of supermarkets in their refrigeration sections, most having no partitions to retain the cold air within the assigned limits. Employees working in those areas wear winter clothing and customers should be equipped with long-johns and parkas to survive shopping in those arctic zones.

It is remarkable that nobody noticed this abuse of refrigeration, of the electric energy producing it and of the oil feeding the latter.
