El Toro 19, Antelope Valley 0--The tandem of quarterback Steve Stenstrom and receiver Rob Johnson led El Toro (5-0) to the victory at home.
Stenstrom completed 13 of 21 for 212 yards, including a 47-yard touchdown to Johnson with 5:59 left to cap El Toro’s scoring. Johnson had nine catches for 154 yards.
The loss was the fourth in a row for Antelope Valley, last year’s Southern Section Division II champion.
The Antelopes had three scoring opportunities but wasted them all. In the second quarter, a bad snap deprived Peter Holt of chance to kick a 47-yard field goal.
On its first possession of the third quarter, Antelope Valley drove from its 22 to the El Toro 13, where the drive stalled and Holt’s 30-yard field-goal attempt was blocked by Brian Haas. Finally, in the fourth quarter, Antelope Valley drove to the Charger 13 again, but on first down, Freddy Edwards fumbled and El Toro recovered.
