ROME — Messaggero, the Italian basketball team featuring Danny Ferry and Brian Shaw, lost its third consecutive game Wednesday night, 96-94 to Ranger Varese.
Ferry scored 23 points and Shaw added 21, but it wasn’t enough as Ranger won on a three-point shot at the buzzer by Massimo Ferraiolo.
Messaggero (1-3) trailed by 10 points with three minutes left, but took the lead for the first time, 94-93, on two free throws by Roberto Premier with 15 seconds left. Ferry, the second pick in the National Basketball Assn. draft, scored six points in the run, which came up short when Ferraiolo hit his shot.
