SAN ANTONIO — First-round draft pick Sean Elliott has agreed to a contract with the San Antonio Spurs that reportedly will pay him $9 million over five years.
A spokesman for the NBA team, Wayne Witt, confirmed this morning that the club had called a news conference to announce the agreement. “We met all night, and I’m very encouraged and optimistic that we will be reaching an agreement today,” Elliott’s attorney, Bob Woolf, said earlier. “My goal was to sign him and have him report today.”
Elliott could play in the Spurs’ first preseason game against Milwaukee on Saturday.
Spurs officials originally would not discuss whether an agreement had been reached for the No. 3 overall draft pick in the NBA.
