NATION IN BRIEF : VIRGINIA : Man Facing Spying Count Is Refused Bail

A former Marine and Air Force communications officer charged with passing classified materials to the Soviets was ordered held without bail in Alexandria, Va. An FBI agent testified that Frank Nesbitt, 44, voluntarily came to her office and related a story of abandoning his family and traveling through Central and South America and to the Soviet Union, where he gave communications intelligence data to the Soviets and was paid $2,000. Nesbitt’s lawyer said his client thought the data was unclassified and that he just wanted “some excitement.”
