Chase Manhattan Buys Office Building: Chase Manhattan Corp. said it exercised an option to buy, for $140 million, the 50-story office building in Lower Manhattan now housing its financial services support staff. The bank holding company said the purchase included the land on which the office building, One New York Plaza, is located at the southern tip of Manhattan, bounded by Water, Broad, South and Whitehall streets. Chase currently leases 1.1 million square feet of the building’s total floor space of 2.4 million square feet, the firm said.
