Pilgrim Place, a retirement community for ministers and missionaries, will hold its 41st annual Pilgrim Festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday at 660 Avery Road, Claremont. The event, which attracts a crowd of about 10,000, will also commemorate the 75th anniversary of the community. About 325 residents dressed in Pilgrim clothes will offer handcrafted items for sale. Among the sellers will be Ray Gibbons, a clockmaker, and Alvin Scaff, a wood turner. Admission to the event is free.
The 30 bazaar booths will feature silk screening, woodworking, weaving, stained glass, fruits, vegetables and the traditional Pilgrim Corncob Dolls.
Children will participate in the “Glue-In,” in which they fashion items from wood chips, plastic discards and glue.
Each day at 1:45 p.m. residents will stage a pageant, “The Pilgrim Story.”
A turkey casserole lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The lunch costs $5 for adults and $3 for children.
More than 700 community volunteers are assisting in the event, which will raise funds for the Residents’ Health Fund.
