SAN DIEGO SPORTS ET CETERA : McMullen Signs with CBA Team

Former San Diego State center Mitch McMullen, released by the Atlanta Hawks last Thursday, has signed with the Santa Barbara Islanders, a Continental Basketball Assn. expansion team.
“I’m real excited,” McMullen said. “I learned an awful lot during the summer and an extra lot going against Moses Malone and Jon Koncak in practice, and I’m going to put the things I learned to use.”
McMullen is optimistic about getting another chance at the NBA.
“(Atlanta Coach Mike) Fratello told me if anything happened to any of his big men, he’d bring me right back,” McMullen said.
