Santa Barbara 49, Glendale 34--Ted Robison completed 26 of 41 passes for 352 yards and one touchdown as Santa Barbara handed Glendale its second Western State Conference loss in a row and its third in the past four games.
Robison’s six-yard scoring toss to tight end Kevin Greig and his subsequent two-point conversion pass to Peter Wolfe gave Santa Barbara a 42-28 lead with 5:15 left in the third quarter.
Santa Barbara (5-4 overall, 4-4) extended the lead to 49-28 early in the fourth period on an 11-yard Mario Robinson touchdown, his second score of the game.
Glendale (4-4-1, 4-3-1) narrowed the deficit to 15 points on Ronnie Lopez’s 14-yard pass to Orlando Cade, but the Vaqueros could get no closer.
Glendale trailed, 21-0, with 1:47 left in the first period, then scored three touchdowns in the next 9:22 to tie the score, 21-21.
Darren Fitzgerald’s 27-yard touchdown pass to Wes Bender knotted the score with 7:35 left in the second quarter and capped an eight-play, 89-yard drive.
Santa Barbara retaliated quickly, however, driving 71 yards in nine plays to take a 28-21 lead on John Pyle’s one-yard plunge and Patrik Schmidle’s fourth extra-point conversion of the game.
Schmidle’s 42-yard field goal with six second left in the half gave Santa Barbara a 31-21 lead at halftime.
Although all four of Santa Barbara’s touchdowns were scored on the ground, Robison accounted for the majority of the Vaqueros’ yardage, completing 19 of 30 passes for 278 yards.
