IBM Sold Used Equipment to Government: IBM sold used equipment to the federal government as new and mis-certified other equipment as U.S.-made, Edward Hefferon, a General Services Administration assistant inspector general, said in a statement to a House Government Operations subcommittee. The company said it had discovered both the used equipment and mis-certification issues as a result of internal audits and voluntarily disclosed the problems to the GSA more than 18 months ago. IBM said it had disclosed the violations to the government and had been cooperating with the investigation. “It appears that IBM has violated the terms of its contracts with the government and may have violated federal law,” Hefferon said.
