U.S. Volleyball Team Loses Second Consecutive Match

OSAKA, Japan — Cuba and Italy scored their second victories Saturday on the second day of the men’s World Cup volleyball tournament.
Cuba beat the defending champion United States, 15-8, 15-12, 15-11, handing the Americans their second defeat. They lost in the first round to the Soviet Union.
European champion Italy beat the Soviet Union, silver medalist at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, 15-8, 15-12, 15-7.
Brazil overpowered South Korea, 15-3, 15-5, 15-8, leaving both countries at 1-1.
