WILMINGTON, Del. — Du Pont Co. said today it will sell its virology blood-screening business to Johnson & Johnson and Chiron Corp. for undisclosed terms.
Du Pont, the nation’s No. 1 chemical company, said, “The sale is the first step in a strategy calling for increased spending in (our) core diagnostics business while divesting some non-strategic diagnostic product lines developed or acquired in recent years.”
The blood-screening business to be sold includes certain kits that detect the presence of acquired immune deficiency syndrome and other diseases in donated blood.
