THE SIDELINES : Skinner Quits Fiesta Bowl Post

TEMPE, Ariz. — Bruce Skinner, the Fiesta Bowl’s executive director since 1980, announced his resignation today, effective Feb. 1.
Skinner, 41, said he plans to enter the event marketing consulting business.
The bowl’s board of directors said they will form a search committee to elect Skinner’s replacement.
During Skinner’s tenure as executive director, the bowl moved from its traditional Christmastime format to New Year’s Day in 1982 and staged national championship football games in 1987 and 1989.
The Fiesta also signed a corporate sponsorship agreement with Sunkist Growers in 1985 to increase payouts to the current $3-million mark and negotiated lucrative multi-year television contracts with NBC in 1984 and 1989.
