Jack Carter Accused of Shoplifting: Comedian Jack Carter was arrested for shoplifting at the Westside Pavilion four days before Christmas, authorities revealed this week. Carter said the incident involved a longstanding dispute with a security guard and said he planned to take legal action. According to Los Angeles Police Department Sgt. Stan Embry, Carter was detained by security guards as he stepped from the Nordstrom store. “He was booked for grand theft for taking merchandise and released on bail,” Embry said. The unpaid-for items reportedly found in the comedian’s shopping bag included a sweater, women’s earrings and a silver picture frame. The nightclub and TV stand-up comic, who came to national prominence on the old “Ed Sullivan Show,” was freed on $1,500 bail and ordered to appear for arraignment Thursday. “They had no right to release that information,” said Carter. “I had a battle with a sleazy security guard and he charged me with shoplifting the next time I was in the store.”
