National Medical Enterprises Inc.: The Santa Monica-based health-care services company reported record second-quarter earnings of $57.1 million, up 21% from the same period a year ago. Revenue rose 16% to a record $1.04 billion. The company had an extraordinary after-tax charge of $2.3 million from the redemption of convertible debentures. The firm said the increased results reflected higher operating profits from each of the company’s three segments: general hospitals, specialty hospitals and long-term care facilities.
