U.S. Firms Get British Cable Franchise: Comment Cablevision, a company owned by US WEST Inc., and US Cable Corp. have been awarded the franchise to provide cable television and telecommunications services in Tyneside, Britain. The Tyneside franchise area, which covers 340,000 homes and 13,000 businesses, is the third largest awarded by the United Kingdom Cable Authority. Construction is expected to start in March.
