Memorial services for longtime anti-development activist William James Wagner will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the San Clemente Elks Lodge.
Wagner, who died in his home Dec. 30 after a long bout with emphysema, was a 36-year member of the Elks. He was also the husband of former city councilwoman Myrtis Wagner, who died of a heart attack in 1980 amid a recall attempt by pro-development factions in the community.
Donations in Wagner’s name may be sent to the Elks National Foundation, in care of San Clemente Elks, 1505 N. El Camino Real, San Clemente, Calif. 92672.
Wagner will be buried in a private ceremony in Hawaii. He is survived by a son, two grandchildren, a sister and a brother.
