Czech Bank Will Offer Visa Credit Cards Next Year

SAN FRANCISCO — Visa International announced today that Czechoslovakia’s oldest retail bank will begin offering Visa cards to citizens there next year.
The Visa cards to be offered by Zivnostenska Banka will represent the first international payment card issued in Czechoslovakia.
The bank intends to initially offer a regular Visa card and a Visa Business Card for frequent travelers to customers with income in foreign currency.
The cards will access the customer’s own funds, according to Visa International.
“This not only marks a significant breakthrough to a new Eastern European market, it is a graphic illustration of the payment card as an international currency,” Jean-Jacques Desbons, executive vice president of Visa International, said in a statement.
