Foreign Sales of Films in English Hit Record: Foreign sales of English-language movies made by companies other than the major studios reached a record $1.1 billion for the fiscal year ended June 30, up 19% from a year earlier, according to an annual survey by American Film Marketing Assn. The gain was driven primarily by a 29% increase in sales to European theater owners, TV companies and video distributors. The survey, conducted by KMPG Peat Marwick, included results from 111 companies, more than 80% of which are headquartered in the United States.
