SEC to Scrutinize Financial Reports: The Securities and Exchange Commission has formed a task force to take a close look at the statements filed by thrifts and other financial institutions. The SEC said it will review the disclosures of several hundred banks and thrifts this year--in addition to routine reviews of financial statements already being conducted. “Some of these institutions will hear from us as early as next month,” a spokeswoman said.
