CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : SACRAMENTO : Two Appointed to State School Board

Gertie B. Thomas of Albany and Kathryn M. Dronenburg of El Cajon have been appointed by Gov. George Deukmejian to the State Board of Education, bringing the board to full strength for the first time in a year. Thomas, 66, is Alameda County director for the UC Cooperative Extension. She will be the only black member of the board, which sets state policy for kindergarten through 12th grade. Dronenburg, 43, is a former San Diego elementary school teacher. Both are Republicans. Their appointments require Senate confirmation.
