THE SIDELINES : Bucks Retiring Moncrief Number

MILWAUKEE — The Bucks will retire the No. 4 worn for 10 years by Sidney Moncrief during a ceremony Tuesday night before a game with the Golden State Warriors. Moncrief, one of the most popular players in Bucks history, retired last fall after he was not re-signed by Milwaukee.

Moncrief, now a Little Rock, Ark., businessman, originally said he just wanted to come back and thank the fans for their support and did not wish to have his number retired. But Bucks officials announced Wednesday night that the number will be retired as part of the ceremony.

During his career, Moncrief led the Bucks to seven straight 50-victory seasons and averaged 16.7 points. He is the Bucks’ career leader in free throws attempted and made and is second in points, steals, assists, minutes and games played.
