THE SIDELINES : Kodak Coach of the Year Named

NEW YORK — Bill McCartney of Colorado was named 1989 Kodak Football Coach of the Year in Division I-A, the American Football Coaches Assn. announced today.
McCartney led the Buffaloes to an 11-0 regular season and No. 1 national ranking before losing 21-6 to Notre Dame in the Orange Bowl.
Erk Russell of Georgia Southern was named I-AA coach of the year.
In the college divisions, John Williams of Mississippi College was coach of the year in Division I, and Mike Kelly of Dayton was honored in Division II.
The awards were announced at the football coaches annual convention in San Francisco.
