A visitor to the offices of the New York football Giants in the late 1950s noted that in one room, defensive coach Tom Landry could be seen lecturing his men; in a second, offensive coach Vince Lombardi was leading his troops, while in another room head Coach Jim Lee Howell was reading a newspaper.
With the rehiring of Homer Smith, UCLA has the chance to implement the Howell system for Terry Donahue--the best recruiter and worst coach in America.
