JERUSALEM — Consumer prices rose 20.7% in Israel during 1989 despite an austerity program aimed at reducing inflation, the government said today.
Israel’s Central Bureau of Statistics said prices rose 1.1% in December, compared with 1.3% in November and 1.6% in December, 1988.
The December increase in the consumer price index, which measures price changes in a fixed market basket of goods, brought the total for the year to 20.7%. This compared with 16.4% in 1988 and 16.1% in 1987.
