LOCAL : Man Steps in Front of Car, Killed

Los Angeles police this morning identified a man killed when he stepped in front of a car on a Studio City street as a transient who had previously been cited for jaywalking in the area.
John William Kocan, 46, was killed about 7 p.m. Sunday when he walked out into traffic on Coldwater Canyon Avenue near Dickens Street and was struck by a northbound car, Detective Don Bellante said.
Police declined to identify the driver of the car because he was not cited in the accident.
“It was not the driver’s fault,” Bellante said. “This guy wandered out into the street where there was no crosswalk and into the traffic. He had done this before.”
The detective said results of tests to determine if Kocan was intoxicated when struck by the car Sunday were not completed.
