Burlington Northern Inc.: The railroad and natural resources holding company’s 1989 net income jumped 56% from the previous year to $243 million. Revenue held steady at $4.6 billion. For the fourth quarter, the Seattle firm posted a profit of $81 million, contrasted with a loss of $21 million in the 1988 period when there was a settlement in an antitrust action. Revenue was steady at $1.18 billion. The annual results were attributed to depressed earnings caused by severe weather conditions in the first quarter and the decline in revenue yield from changes in commodity mix, length of haul and competitive factors.
