A Canoga Park driver who was not wearing a seat belt was run over by his own car and killed after being thrown from vehicle when it spun out and hit a lamppost.
Vernon Briscoe, 31, died at 11 p.m. Monday at Humana Hospital-West Hills, about an hour after the accident on Nevada Avenue near Calvert Street in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles Police Officer Ed Burns said.
Burns said Briscoe and a 27-year-old passenger were traveling north on Nevada when Briscoe drove his BMW through a puddle of rainwater at an unsafe speed. “The car spun out and hit a light standard,” Burns said. “Briscoe was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the car. The car ended up on top of him.”
The passenger, whose name was not released, was not injured.
