Police on Tuesday continued to search for an inmate who escaped from a minimum-security jail Monday morning.
Hector Noriega turned up missing at a 5:30 a.m. bed check in the James A. Musick Branch Jail at Irvine Boulevard and Alton Parkway.
“He probably just jumped a fence, but we don’t know how he escaped at this time,” said sheriff’s Sgt. Bill Voltin.
Noriega, also known as Jorge Carlos Rodriguez, was arrested Dec. 19 and charged with burglary and receiving stolen property, a sheriff’s spokesman said.
He is described as being 27 years old, 5 feet 10 inches tall, 150 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.
The escapee was sent to the Musick Branch Jail, a minimum-security facility near the El Toro Marine Corps Air Station, on Dec. 21.
