Unable to use its gym because of a scheduling conflict, the Antelope Valley College men’s basketball team has moved its Feb. 3 home game against College of the Desert to the University of Nevada Las Vegas’ 18,500-seat Thomas and Mack Center.
The Antelope Valley gym will be used for an event sponsored by the Antelope Valley Symphony Orchestra.
The Antelope Valley-Desert game will follow a nationally televised game at 11 a.m. between UNLV and North Carolina State.
“It was one of the things that I told the guys here I would try to do,” said Antelope Valley Coach Newton Chelette, an assistant coach at UNLV in 1987. “It just gives us an opportunity to play in a great basketball arena and a great atmosphere.”
Antelope Valley will have to pay a rental fee for the gym and pay for game support staff. Admission to the Antelope Valley game will be free, and tickets reportedly remain for the UNLV game.
The women’s team, meanwhile, has rescheduled its game against Desert at Paraclete High at 5 p.m.
