HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Mt. Carmel Rolls Past Longhorns

Vicki de Jesus scored 22 points to lead No. 7 Mt. Carmel to a 56-33 Palomar League girls’ basketball victory over No. 5 Rancho Buena Vista at Mt. Carmel Thursday.
Teammate Tara Schwerin added 10 points for Mt. Carmel (11-4, 5-1), which took a 33-14 halftime lead.
Rancho Buena Vista (12-5, 5-1) was led by Annjanette Vitulli with 11 points and Skiy Burton with eight rebounds.
In other Palomar League games:
Torrey Pines 72, San Dieguito 45--Karyn Armstrong led Torrey Pines with 21 points, and teammates Allison Booth and Adrian Brelans scored 13 and 12. Torrey Pines (9-6, 3-3) led at halftime, 31-13. San Dieguito dropped to 5-10, 0-6.
Vista 56, Orange Glen 39--Alicia Gerken and Cindy Rand each scored 17 points for Vista (10-6, 3-3). Melanie Hroch led Orange Glen (4-10, 0-6) with 19 points.
Avocado League
Escondido 40, El Camino 34--Kiersten Grove scored 13 points, and Kerrie Armstrong and Stephanie Sultany each added eight for Escondido (3-10, 1-5). Katie Schanklechris and Jodi Tomlinson each scored 10 points for El Camino (4-11, 1-4).
Metro Conference
Chula Vista 56, Sweetwater 23--Lillian Casas scored 19 and Stefanie 12 for Chula Vista (7-9, 4-3). Chula Vista led, 28-4, at halftime. Sweetwater dropped to 2-10, 0-7.
Bonita Vista 77, Montgomery 59--Paula McNamee scored 25 and Torril Purvis 21 for Bonita Vista (12-4, 6-2). Monica Vargas and Tish Scarborough each scored 14 for Montgomery (12-6, 6-2).
