Monroe 63, Van Nuys 60--James Hooks’ 25-foot three-point shot hit the rim as time expired in a Mid-Valley League game at Monroe as the Wolves’ woes continued. Kenyon Wright and Elmer Singer each had 16 points to lead the Vikings (3-11, 2-3). Michael Crawford of Van Nuys (2-14, 1-4) scored 17 and Hooks added 13.
Grant 69, Poly 47--Grant (15-3, 5-0) pulled out to an 11-point lead at the end of the first quarter of its East Valley League game at home. Keith Weinstein and Rene de la Hoya led a balanced Grant attack with 17 and 16 points. Teammate Setro Terzian scored 10.
Birmingham 76, Sylmar 61--Junior forwards Brian Bennett and Kevin Horton scored 25 and 17 points for Birmingham (6-9, 3-2) in an East
its third consecutive game.
Donovan Walker scored 15 points to lead four players in double figures for Sylmar (9-9, 2-3).
El Camino Real 62, Chatsworth 39--Allen Chenen scored 17 points and Scott Huse and Todd Orlando each had 12 for El Camino Real (6-8, 3-2). Teammate Stephen Lipscomb had 15 assists in the West Valley League game.
San Fernando 67, Canoga Park 49--Lance Whitaker had 29 points and grabbed 24 rebounds as San Fernando (9-6, 2-3) dominated the boards with 56 rebounds in a West Valley League game. Both teams struggled from the field, but San Fernando was able to rebound its missed shots and held a 35-12 halftime lead over the Hunters (8-10, 0-5).
Crespi 81, St. Francis 62--Rasaan Hall scored 29 points and Christian Fauria added 20 points, 18 rebounds and eight assists to lead visiting Crespi (9-9, 3-1) to a Del Rey League victory over St. Francis (5-8, 0-4).
Westlake 76, Channel Islands 54--Westlake (11-6, 5-1) used its height advantage as B. J. Sena and John Van Spyk, a pair of 6-foot-6 forwards, scored 30 and 22 points in a Marmonte League game. Noe Noyola scored 19 points and Marlo Durmiendo scored 11 for host Channel Islands (7-10, 1-5).
Thousand Oaks 66, Newbury Park 56--Gal Hever scored 16 points to lead four players in double figures as host Thousand Oaks (8-9, 3-3) posted a Marmonte League win.
Antelope Valley 63, Palmdale 62 (OT)--Brock Chase sank a shot from 30 feet to lift visiting Antelope Valley (17-3, 5-0) to a dramatic win against Palmdale in overtime. Chris DeGlopper scored 24 points to lead Palmdale (11-9, 3-2).
Canyon 69, Saugus 54--Forward Greg Dobes scored 18 points to lead Canyon (13-5, 4-1) to a Golden League victory over host Saugus (5-11, 0-5). Forward Greg Yumbar scored 22 points to lead Saugus.
Hart 87, Schurr 72--Micah Ohlman scored 26 points and Marty Downen added 15 points and 18 rebounds for Hart (13-6, 2-2) in a Foothill League game.
Crescenta Valley 65, Arcadia 62--Arcadia (9-10, 2-3) used a box-and-one defense to limit Crescenta Valley’s second-leading scorer, Mike Johnson, to seven points. But Steve Finch stepped forward with 12 points, including nine in a pivotal fourth quarter, to give the Falcons (12-6, 4-1) the Pacific League win. Paul Matijasevic, the team’s leading scorer, paced the Falcons with 15 points.
Glendale 67, Hoover 65--Brent Overfelt made a layup with 13 seconds left to give visiting Glendale its first Pacific League victory of the season. Brian Porter led Glendale (7-11, 1-4) with 15 points and six assists.
John Hillman scored a season-high 33 for Hoover (4-13, 1-4).
Notre Dame 72, St. Genevieve 34--Paul Hewitt scored eight of his 18 points in the first quarter as the Knights raced to a 25-9 lead over the mistake-plagued Valiants en route to the San Fernando Valley League rout at home.
Bob DaCorsi added 15 points and 10 assists for Notre Dame (9-7, 3-1) and Hewitt pulled down 15 rebounds. St. Genevieve (2-14, 0-4) committed 40 turnovers.
Chaminade 54, Bell Jeff 51--With Chaminade (8-8, 2-2) trailing by one point with 1:05 left to play, center Charlie Fei scored on two free throws to put the Eagles ahead for good against visiting Bell Jeff (6-10, 2-2) in a San Fernando Valley League game.
Nordhoff 62, Agoura 60--Rob Fournier’s layup with eight seconds left gave Nordhoff (11-6, 4-1) a Frontier League win at Agoura. Tim Sebek scored 20 points and Trevor Taylor scored 19 for Nordhoff. Sean Martin had 21 to lead Agoura (9-7, 2-3).
Santa Clara 56, Calabasas 47--Calabasas ran into the state’s top-ranked Division IV team and Shon Tarver, who scored 27 points for the Saints (15-0, 5-0) in a Frontier League game. Jim Friedlander scored nine points for Calabasas (9-8, 3-2).
Village Christian 59, Maranatha 47--Village Christian jumped to an early 7-0 lead, but Maranatha (2-14, 0-7) bounced back to trail by only one at the half. The Crusaders (6-10, 2-4) outscored Maranatha, 16-4, in the third quarter and held on for an Alpha League victory at home.
L.A. Baptist 35, Western Christian 34--Kevin Bennett hit two free throws with 13 seconds left to give L. A. Baptist (6-10, 3-3) the Alpha League win. L. A. Baptist erased a 31-24 deficit and hit nine of 10 free throws in the final quarter to upset Western Christian (11-6, 4-2).
Moorpark 69, Oak Park 54--Moorpark (9-7, 3-1) won the battle of the boards, 53-23, in a Tri-Valley League game at Oak Park. Moorpark’s front line of Robert Hernandez, Mike Granderson and Jodie Kitt combined for 39 points and 44 rebounds.
GIRLS
Hart 83, Schurr 57--Hart’s inside-outside combination of center Sara Wilson and guard Anjanette Dionne combined for 52 points in a Foothill League game at Hart.
Van Nuys 77, Monroe 34--Tina Means and Stacie Toon each had 19 points for Van Nuys.
