An album as long on originality and insight as its title, Van Shelton’s third outing is paint-by-numbers country. While at times he may bring a Rodney Crowell-like nectar sweetness to his vocals, there’s not a glimmer of Crowell’s songwriting talent to be found. It’s all competently played, and the chugging rockabilly tune “Love Is Burnin’ ” suggests he’s familiar with Elvis’ “Sun Sessions.” The rest of the time, though, it’s pure “Clambake.”
