Long Beach : Panel Appointed to Help Ensure Accurate Census

City officials have begun beating the drum for the 1990 U.S. census, the once-a-decade head count that determines state and national legislative representation and influences the distribution of federal funding.
In a press conference Monday, Mayor Ernie Kell stressed the importance of getting a complete count of Long Beach residents. He has appointed a city committee, the 1990 Census Complete Count Committee, to help the Bureau of the Census obtain an accurate count of local residents. The committee is planning a promotional campaign to encourage participation in the census.
